In the 21st century, plastic films have developed rapidly, and PVC heat-shrinkable film has found increasingly diverse applications, including agricultural greenhouses and product packaging. Its widespread adoption is primarily due to the following advantages:
Wrap palletized goods to ensure the packaging is more secure and tidy, while providing superior waterproof protection.
It features high tensile strength, excellent elongation, strong self-adhesion, and high transparency.
Shrink film, or heat-shrink film, is primarily produced by co-extruding a blend of several different grades of polyolefin resins and boasts excellent puncture resistance and superior high‑performance strength.
Heat-shrink film extrusion technology primarily refers to the key process steps in the production of heat-shrink films, such as extrusion, shaping, cooling, traction, and winding. In this paper, the multi-layer flat‑die co‑extrusion head—featuring twice as many extrusion layers—provides a larger heat‑absorbing surface area and superior plasticization, thereby boosting production output. Coupled with enhanced cooling techniques, overall throughput can be increased by up to 50%.
PVC heat-shrink film has certain drawbacks. For example, some PVC heat-shrink films are very pliable in summer but become brittle in winter; others readily attract dust, losing their transparency; and still others have a short service life, aging quickly and failing to withstand harsh weather conditions or prolonged sun exposure, with surfaces prone to cracking. Nevertheless, despite these shortcomings, PVC heat-shrink film remains widely used today. As the technology continues to mature, it is certain that heat-shrink film will find applications in an even broader range of fields.
