BOPP heat-seal film It is primarily used for display packaging of fresh products such as vegetables, fruits, flowers, sushi, and frozen raw meats. BOPP heat-seal film boasts excellent anti-fog properties, high heat-seal strength, superior heat resistance, excellent slip characteristics, and outstanding ease of opening. Now, let’s explore the applications and performance of BOPP heat-seal film.

BOPP heat-seal film is a functional film designed to prevent water vapor from condensing on its surface and compromising transparency. Because fresh produce typically has a high moisture content, temperature fluctuations during storage and retail display can lead to the formation of an opaque haze inside the packaging. It is primarily used for display‑oriented packaging of fresh items such as vegetables, fruits, flowers, sushi, and frozen raw meats. Without this film, products in the bag are prone to moisture exposure, accelerating spoilage and significantly shortening both shelf life and display life. Conventional BOPP heat‑seal bags often obscure the contents, making it difficult for consumers to assess the product. By contrast, BOPP heat‑seal film not only enhances product visibility but also effectively extends shelf life and display time, making it widely adopted in supermarkets.

BOPP heat-seal film is a highly important flexible packaging material. With low surface energy, it exhibits excellent printability and can be color-printed, making it widely applicable. BOPP film is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and non‑toxic, while offering high tensile strength, impact resistance, rigidity, toughness, and outstanding transparency, resulting in an attractive appearance; accordingly, it is commonly used as the outer layer in composite films.

BOPP heat-seal films also have certain drawbacks, such as a tendency to accumulate static electricity and the lack of inherent heat‑sealability. On high‑speed production lines, BOPP heat‑seal films are prone to static buildup, necessitating the installation of an electrostatic eliminator. To produce BOPP heat‑seal films with heat‑sealability, one can coat them with heat‑sealable resin dispersions such as PVDC latex or EVA latex, or apply solvent‑based adhesives, using extrusion coating or co‑extrusion lamination techniques.

This film is widely used for packaging bread, clothing, socks, and more, but it has relatively low tear resistance upon secondary tearing. Therefore, avoid making cuts at both ends of BOPP heat-seal films; otherwise, they are prone to tearing during printing and lamination. After coating with adhesive, BOPP can be used to produce sealing tapes as well as packaging for tobacco products and book covers. The induced tear strength of BOPP heat-seal film improves after stretching, making it a major market segment for BOPP applications.

BOPP heat-seal films can be produced using either the tubular‑film or flat‑film process. Depending on the manufacturing method, the resulting BOPP heat-seal films exhibit different properties. Flat‑film‑produced BOPP heat-seal films, with their higher draw ratio (up to 8–10), generally offer greater tensile strength and better thickness uniformity compared to those made by the tubular‑film process.

To achieve excellent overall performance, BOPP can be laminated with materials such as LDPE (CPP), PE, PT, PO, and PVA, yielding films with superior gas barrier properties, moisture resistance, transparency, and resistance to high and low temperatures, as well as to steaming and oil. Different composite films are suitable for packaging oily foods. In practice, multilayer lamination is commonly employed in production. BOPP can be combined with a wide range of substrates to meet specific application requirements. Currently, leveraging its unique characteristics, further development is underway to address the challenge of producing anti‑fog films—a capability that has thus far eluded the domestic BOPP industry. Anti‑fog BOPP films exhibit outstanding anti‑fog performance, high heat‑seal strength, excellent thermal stability, superior smoothness, excellent release properties, strong puncture resistance, and high transparency, while being safe, hygienic, non‑toxic, and harmless. The onset temperature and duration of the anti‑fog effect can be precisely controlled by adjusting the dosage of anti‑fog additives.

Key technical aspects: the formulation technology for anti-fog masterbatch; the optimal addition level of anti-fog additives during the production of BOPP heat-seal films; and the process control parameters for BOPP heat-seal films. Insufficient additive dosage results in poor anti-fog performance, while excessive dosing leads to increased haze, winding difficulties, and higher costs. Furthermore, selecting the appropriate release‑enhancing additive and optimizing its dosage requires balancing release properties with haze levels. Anti‑fog films have stringent requirements for heat‑sealability; whereas standard heat‑seal films only need to meet 10 N/15 mm, anti‑fog films must achieve a seal strength exceeding 20 N/15 mm.

To achieve anti-fog performance across both high and low temperatures, the sample was placed in a refrigeration chamber at 0–4°C for 24 hours; no fog droplets appeared on the surface. It was then subjected to alternating environmental conditions of above 60°C and below 0°C for another 24 hours, during which no fog droplets formed on the film’s surface.
